If you wish to make a dramatic impression with interior design, one sure-fire way is to use the largest surface available for the boldest possible statement.

Riga, Latvia-based luxury design firm Katz  did just that with the head office design project for their own shareholder VCG (Vivax Communications Group) also located in Riga.

Katz, led by founders Dmitry Holomyov and Stan Katz, used the floor of the large entrance lobby as their theatrical canvas and created a stunning, swirling black-and-white first impression.

With the front of the reception desk made of a reflective material, the Alice-in-Wonderland feel repeats itself further up as well.

Luckily, the offices and meeting rooms of the approximately 600 square-meter (6,458 sq. ft.) premises are less startling and instead settle down in an opulently subdued and calmly classic style, with the black-and-white stripes repeating only in a few pieces of furniture.

The project cost about half-a-million Euros (about $550 000 US) and includes many custom-produced furnishings and furniture.
